Situation

You are trying to pay with WeChat Pay in a shop, restaurant, taxi, or mini-program. The payment fails or the merchant asks for another method.

Before You Start

  1. Keep Alipay installed and tested.
  2. Carry cash in small notes.
  3. Keep one physical card available.
  4. Know whether the purchase is essential.
  5. Keep screenshots of any large failed payment.

Steps

  1. Confirm you are using the payment function, not a chat transfer.
  2. Ask whether Alipay is accepted.
  3. Try merchant-scan and customer-scan flows if available.
  4. Check whether the amount triggers a bank approval.
  5. If the merchant cannot help, switch method.
  6. For nonessential purchases, leave and try a larger merchant.

If It Fails

  • The app says this card cannot be used.
  • The merchant does not support your QR flow.
  • A mini-program asks for an ID type you do not have.
