Map Search Cannot Find the English Place Name
Short Answer
Section titled “Short Answer”Search with Chinese name, address, phone number, or a saved map pin. English place names are useful for you, but local navigation often needs Chinese identifiers.
Situation
Section titled “Situation”You search a hotel, restaurant, attraction, or station in English and the map app finds nothing or the wrong branch.
Before You Start
Section titled “Before You Start”- Save Chinese names for hotels and stations.
- Screenshot important map pins.
- Keep phone numbers for hotels and venues.
- Save offline address notes.
- Ask the hotel to confirm destinations before leaving.
- Copy the Chinese name from the booking or official page.
- Search by full Chinese address if name search fails.
- Use phone number search for hotels or venues when available.
- Check district and nearby landmarks.
- Save the confirmed pin before starting transport.
- Show the Chinese address to taxi or staff.
If It Fails
Section titled “If It Fails”Watch for these signals:
- English name returns multiple branches.
- The map pin is several blocks away.
- The driver asks for a Chinese address.
- Mobile data fails while searching.
Stop Retrying When

- You are about to enter a taxi or order Didi.
- A staff member can verify the address now.
Backup
Section titled “Backup”- Ask hotel front desk to write the address.
- Use the venue phone number.
- Use official website address.
- Choose a nearby landmark only if final walking route is safe.
What Not To Assume
Section titled “What Not To Assume”- Do not assume translated names are unique.
- Do not assume a map pin from a third-party listing is exact.
- Do not wait until the car arrives to verify destination.
